Named after famed immigrant, Johann A Sutter, Sutter Village, reminds us of Sutter's immigrant heartbeat. Looking for a place to settle and prosper, Sutter founded a settlement which was the beginning of Sacramento, California's capital city. Near the confluence of the Sacramento and American Rivers, Sutter's settlement encouraged immigration and he aided immigrants. Although not part of his plan, the gold rush was responsible for the rapid settlement of the state. The gold seekers established camps, many of which are now the picturesque towns of the Mother Lode, and populated Sutter's land grant. Street names in Sutter Village pay homage to the man and men who were the first European settlers during the gold rush.
